Overview
An adult non-stress echocardiogram is an ultrasound of your heart. It examines the structure and mechanical function of your heart.
Common Echocardiography Questions
How is the procedure performed?
An ultrasound transducer (a microphone-like object which directs sound waves to produce a two-dimensional image) and some gel will be applied to the front of your chest so your heart can be studied. There is no radiation used in this test.
Is the procedure safe?
Yes, the procedure is safe and painless.
What preparation is needed? No preparation is needed for this procedure.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. You may be asked to change into a patient gown or scrub top.
How long will the procedure take? Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your exam time to verify registration information and prepare for the exam. Allow approximately 45 minutes for the procedure.
What can I expect after the procedure? There are no known after effects of echocardiography.
When will my doctor get the results?
One of our radiologists will study the images and send a written report to your physician within one to two business days.
